Twitter, the ever popular social networking site now has a competitor in Japan. Ameba, Japanese blog service recently launched a new micro-blogging service for its members in December called Ameba Now (Ameba ??). Such as Twitter, Ameba Now allows for 140 character long messages/ tweets and photo uploads that are displayed on the author’s profile page for the world to know. However as compared to Twitter, Ameba Now has integrated trademark cute emoji into the posts. Ameba Now, in January alone has a million unique visitors where Twitter is said to have 4.7 million. Ameba Now has a 54% female blogging share as compared to Twitter with 64% male users on the site.
Blogs are becoming a huge part of computer users in Japan. As social networking changes so much, it hard to tell the outcome of which social networking site will rank the most popular in Japan. With sites such as Mixi, Facebook, Twitter and Ameba there is a strong competition. Link
