Left By The Ship

26 May Left By The Ship

Directed by Emma Rossi Landi and Alberto Vendemmiati, Left by the Ship is a stunning documentary following the lives of four Filipino Amerasians as they struggle to overcome a past that they are in no way responsible for. “While American sailors left Subic Bay after U.S. forces pulled out of the Philippines in 1992, their legacies remain on the faces of abandoned offspring. At least 50,000 children were born to U.S. servicemen and Filipina sex workers, creating a generation of fatherless, mixed-race children in limbo. Unable to elude discrimination because of their physical features, they are derogatorily labeled Iniwan ng Barko (left by the ship).” Available in select theaters. Link
