America’s third-largest fast-food chain, Wendy’s has returned to Japan on Tuesday following closure of its 71 Wendy’s burger restaurants in 2009. In celebration, Wendy’s first new store to open will offer a ¥1,280 ($16 USD) Foie Gras Rossini Burger in addition to a Truffle and Porcini Grilled Chicken Sandwich and Wasabi-Avocado Burger. Located in Tokyo’s upscale Omotesando fashion district, the chain’s new premium menu is hoping to attract new customers in a highly competitive marketplace.
“We think the fast-food market here is ready for something different,” says Ernest Higa, CEO of Wendy’s Japan during an interview at the restaurant’s opening. The company expects to open 100 targeted restaurants in Japan over the next five years with a potential of about 700 restaurants in the long term. Link
