05 Aug Angelina Jolie Unveils Long-Awaited ‘First They Killed My Father’ Trailer

Premiering September 15, 2017, First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers marks Netflix’s long-awaited release of Angelina Jolie’s feature-length film. Based on the best-selling 2000 memoir of the same name, the film follows the story of 5-year-old Loung Ung’s experience as a child soldier under the Khmer Rouge during Cambodian genocide in 1975.  “Once her hometown capital of Phnom Penh was overtaken, Ung’s family was separated — the young girl was forced to become a child soldier while her siblings were sent to labor camps. The genocide included the deaths of one-quarter of the country’s population.”

Co-written the screenplay with Loung Ung, First They Killed My Father marks Angelina Jolie’s fourth non-documentary feature film, following In the Land of Blood and Honey in 2011, Unbroken in 2014 and By the Sea in 2015. Link
